2 Canton men arrested in connection with fatal shooting at Summit County Halloween party

Police have arrested two suspects linked to a fatal shooting at a Halloween party in Summit County, Ohio, that occurred in October. The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Christian Ruben Diaz-Sauceda and 23-year-old Terrance Williams, both from Canton, were apprehended within the last week. Authorities allege that Williams was the gunman and he faces charges including first-degree murder, while Diaz-Sauceda is charged with complicity to commit second-degree assault.
The incident took place on October 27, 2024, at a gathering in Springfield Township, just after midnight. During the festivities, 39-year-old Brian Cofer from Akron was shot and killed, and another individual sustained serious injuries from an apparent physical altercation.
Springfield Township Police Chief Jack Simone announced the arrest of Diaz-Sauceda on Wednesday, with details suggesting that U.S. Marshals captured Williams shortly thereafter on Friday. “These arrests cannot undo the grief and suffering caused by this senseless act of violence,” Simone stated, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to achieve justice and provide some level of comfort to the victim's family.
This tragic shooting occurred just hours after another fatal incident at a Halloween party in Akron, less than 10 miles away, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old woman and injuries to two other teenagers. Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with that case, and police have not confirmed any links between the two shootings.
The authorities continue their investigation, hoping that swift action in the current case reflects their dedication to maintaining safety and justice in the community.
