Lexington man sentenced for fetal homicide

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man from Lexington, Rigoberto Vasquez-Barradas, was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday for fetal homicide. This conviction stems from a violent incident involving his pregnant girlfriend, which led to a miscarriage.
According to police reports, Vasquez-Barradas kicked his girlfriend in the stomach and strangled her during the altercation. Medical professionals confirmed that the miscarriage was a direct consequence of the assault she suffered.
In January, he pleaded guilty to amended charges of third-degree fetal homicide and second-degree assault, classified as domestic violence under extreme emotional disturbance.
The sentence of seven years was part of a plea deal that was reached in this case.
This incident highlights the serious repercussions of domestic violence and the impact it can have not only on victims but also on unborn children.
