Cleveland man, woman in stolen Mercedes lead police on chase in Brook Park
BROOK PARK, Ohio - A 60-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Cleveland were apprehended late on March 19 after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen Mercedes-Benz sedan. The chase began when officers spotted the vehicle traveling at 60 mph in a 35-mph zone on southbound Smith Road.
Upon noticing the speeding Mercedes, police activated their lights in an attempt to pull the car over. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated and made a sudden lane change onto Remora Boulevard, during which the passenger-side door repeatedly opened and closed.
The pursuit ended when the Mercedes abruptly stopped at the intersection of Remora and Delores Boulevard. The man, who was in the passenger seat, exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away, ignoring police orders to stop. He eventually jogged north on Delores Boulevard and was later found by officers on Pike Boulevard.
During questioning, the woman driving the car explained that the man had advised her not to stop for the police. Further investigation revealed that the Mercedes had been reported stolen from Seven Hills, adding to the charges faced by the suspects.
Both individuals were arrested and are facing multiple charges related to the pursuit and the vehicle theft. The incident underscores ongoing issues related to car thefts and reckless driving in the area.
