Breaux Bridge Man Killed in Butte La Rose Bar Shooting, Suspect Arrested

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of 61-year-old Paul Baudoin from Breaux Bridge, who faces manslaughter charges following the shooting death of 45-year-old Jesse Cormier, also from Breaux Bridge. The tragic incident occurred late Thursday night at *The Butte Bar* in Butte La Rose, just before midnight.
Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call shortly before midnight and found Cormier deceased from a gunshot wound. Baudoin was taken into custody the following afternoon, March 28, and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center; he faces one charge of manslaughter, with no bond set at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
Butte La Rose resident Pamela Severio expressed her shock over the incident, highlighting the close-knit nature of the community. She noted that a prior altercation between Baudoin and Cormier likely contributed to the violence, exacerbated by the circumstances at a bar where alcohol was involved. Severio underscored that such incidents are rare in the area and emphasized the community’s need to support both families affected by the tragedy.
"This is about coming together, supporting each other, and making sure our people feel safe," Severio stated, reflecting the sentiment of many in the community who are grappling with the aftermath of the shooting.
Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information regarding the incident to reach out to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-394-3071. Updates on the story will continue as more information becomes available.
