Breaux Bridge Man Killed in Butte La Rose Bar Shooting, Suspect Arrested

Authorities have arrested 61-year-old Paul Baudoin from Breaux Bridge, charging him with manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Jesse Cormier, also from Breaux Bridge. The shooting occurred late Thursday night at a local business known as *The Butte Bar*, located on Atchafalaya River Highway in Butte La Rose.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call shortly before midnight on March 27, only to find Cormier dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. Baudoin was apprehended the following afternoon and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, with the investigation still ongoing and no bond set at this time.
Local resident Pamela Severio expressed shock over the incident, noting that the community rarely experiences such violent crimes. She highlighted that there had been a prior altercation between the two men, suggesting that alcohol may have played a role in the tragic event.
Severio emphasized the importance of community support during this difficult time, stating, “This is about coming together, supporting each other, and making sure our people feel safe.” The close-knit community of Butte La Rose is rallying behind both families affected by this violence.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-394-3071. As the situation develops, further updates will be provided.
