Cuyahoga County says car was involved in fiery crash after attempting to flee deputies, Eddy Road closed near Cleveland Memorial Shoreway

CLEVELAND -- A section of Eddy Road has been closed near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway following a fiery crash late Friday night. Cuyahoga County officials reported that one of the vehicles involved was attempting to flee from sheriff's deputies when the incident occurred.
According to county spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia, the pursuit began when deputies attempted to pull over a car on East 9th Street around 9:45 p.m. The vehicle fled the scene and continued onto Interstate 90, where it traveled several miles before attempting to exit at Eddy Road. During the exit, the fleeing car collided with another vehicle.
The Cleveland Division of Fire confirmed that crews extinguished flames from both vehicles just before 10 p.m. The fires ignited at two locations: one at the beginning of the Eddy Road on-ramp to I-90 east and another at the base of a wall just east of Eddy and south of the ramp. Firefighters have since cleared the area, but Eddy Road and the ramps remain closed to traffic, while the Shoreway continues to operate normally.
Cuyahoga County authorities have yet to confirm whether the suspect vehicle was actively being pursued by deputies at the time of the crash. Additional information regarding any injuries resulting from the incident has not been disclosed.
The investigation into the crash and the circumstances leading up to it continues, as officials work to gather more details about the incident and the vehicles involved.
