Joshua Lucero, 33, was sentenced to nine years in prison for his involvement in a burglary ring that targeted over 100 businesses in the Portland area. The investigation began in July 2024, as the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) analyzed surveillance footage from various break-ins, where Lucero was identified as a key suspect.

Lucero was arrested in December 2024 after initially facing 50 charges. He ultimately struck a plea deal, admitting guilt to 23 counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary, and six counts of unauthorized vehicle use. During the court proceedings, Deputy District Attorney Alexander Garcia read statements from impacted business owners, highlighting the lasting effects of Lucero's actions on their lives.

In addition to Lucero, two other suspects, Courtney Carlile, 27, and David Blew, 33, were also apprehended in connection with the crime ring. District Attorney Nathan Vasquez emphasized Lucero's role as one of the leaders and expressed that his incarceration would contribute to community safety.

Vasquez noted that while this sentencing is a positive step, the fight against such criminal behavior is ongoing. He mentioned that there are likely more suspects still at large and vowed to continue pursuing all involved in the burglary operations.

"This is the first of this ring," Vasquez declared, underscoring his commitment to holding all perpetrators accountable. He expressed hope that these efforts would alleviate some of the challenges faced by local businesses in the aftermath of the crimes.
