Two arrested on drug charges, stolen tools recovered

In Michigan City, Indiana, an extensive investigation by the La Porte County Drug Task Force has led to the recovery of a significant amount of stolen property and the arrest of two local residents. The operation focused on illegal narcotics distribution and culminated in the execution of a search warrant on March 12 at a residence on Hoyt Street.
During the investigation, authorities discovered various tools that matched descriptions of items reported stolen from a recently constructed Chick-fil-A on Franklin Street. These tools were believed to have been taken during a theft on January 28, 2025. Following the initial findings, assistance from the La Porte County Prosecutor's Office allowed for an additional search warrant to be obtained, resulting in approximately $9,000 worth of stolen property being recovered.
The arrests of Kyle Fugate and Marisa Meeks were made in connection with the dealing of a Schedule II controlled substance, underscoring the coordinated effort of local police and the drug task force to address narcotics-related issues impacting the community. The investigation highlights ongoing concerns surrounding illegal drug distribution in Michigan City.
Lead detective Tempest Miller urges anyone with information regarding the case to come forward, providing multiple channels for reporting, including direct contact, social media, and anonymous hotlines. The police aim to engage the public in reporting criminal activity, assuring anonymity for informants.
In addition to crime reporting, health officials have raised awareness about the increased risk of drug overdoses associated with disruptions in drug supply. They encourage those struggling with substance use to seek assistance, providing resources like the national treatment hotline and local lifeline services to support individuals in need.
