Single-vehicle crash claims life

IRONWOOD -- Late Wednesday night, at around 11:20 PM, a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred on M-64 in Marenisco Township, prompting a response from the Michigan State Police Wakefield post and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department.
The vehicle, which was heading southbound on M-64, lost control and overturned. A 45-year-old woman from Bessemer, who was in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle and tragically died at the scene.
A 33-year-old man from Bessemer, seated in the rear, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital before being released. The 57-year-old driver from Marenisco also received treatment for minor injuries.
Following an investigation at the scene, authorities arrested the driver for operating while intoxicated causing death. He was subsequently lodged at the Gogebic County Jail, with further details withheld pending arraignment.
The response to the incident involved not only the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department and state police but also assistance from Beacon Ambulance, Marenisco First Responders, and Gogebic County Victim's Services.
