On Friday morning, law enforcement apprehended the leader of a satanic group, Michael Stewart, along with several others, at the Kansas Statehouse. The individuals were present either to participate in or oppose a "Black Mass" ritual planned by Stewart, who is the president of the Satanic Grotto. Despite being advised by Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly to move the event outside, Stewart proceeded with his ceremony inside the rotunda, leading to a confrontation with a counterprotester.

As Stewart began the Black Mass, tension escalated, resulting in a physical altercation between him and a counterprotester. Law enforcement swiftly intervened, subduing Stewart and warning him about the consequences of causing a disturbance. He was removed from the premises while proclaiming devotion to Satan. Subsequently, he was arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and disorderly conduct, as confirmed by the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

Nearby, a large group of Catholics and other Christians gathered to protest the planned Black Mass, emphasizing their opposition to the event's anti-Catholic imagery. Kent Van Amburg, a participant from St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, articulated their desire to demonstrate the reality of God and the necessity of opposing evil forces.

The situation drew a substantial presence of law enforcement, including the Kansas Highway Patrol and Capitol Police, to ensure order amid the gathering of both protestors and supporters of the ceremony. Tensions remained high as both sides expressed their viewpoints in front of the Kansas Statehouse.

As 27 News continues to investigate, they are reaching out to determine any additional charges against other individuals involved in the incident. Further updates will be provided as new information emerges regarding the confrontation and subsequent arrests.
