Who is Sedona Prince? What to know about TCU center's career, off-court issues
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sedona Prince, a 6-foot-7 center for the No. 2 TCU women's basketball team, is having a standout season as the Horned Frogs celebrate their first Sweet 16 appearance in program history. After securing an 85-70 victory over Louisville, TCU is set to face No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday. Prince played a crucial role in the win, contributing 19 points and 4 rebounds.
At 24 years old, Prince is one of the tournament's oldest players, having spent six years in college basketball. She began her career at Texas before transferring to Oregon, where she had to sit out one season. Following two seasons with the Ducks, she has spent the last two seasons at TCU. This season, she has played in every game, averaging 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game, leading the Big 12 in total blocks.
Prince’s notable performances in the tournament so far include 16 points and 10 rebounds in a first-round win against Fairleigh Dickinson, followed by her impressive outing against Louisville. She has become a key player not only for her team but also for her contributions to gender equity in college sports. In 2022, she gained national attention for a viral TikTok video highlighting discrepancies in facilities for the women's NCAA tournament, prompting significant changes in how the tournaments are branded and equipped.
Despite her success on the court, Prince's career has been marred by allegations of assault and sexual misconduct, with the latest report alleging an incident involving a TCU student. Prince has denied all allegations through her attorney, maintaining her innocence. Past allegations have also surrounded her, including a disbanded lawsuit and claims from another woman regarding an ATV incident, which have led to a petition calling for her removal from the team.
As a sixth-year graduate student, Prince plans to enter the WNBA draft after this season, having exhausted her collegiate eligibility. Despite a setback due to a torn ligament in her elbow that sidelined her for the 2022-23 season, she was ranked as the eighth overall prospect by ESPN and was a highly regarded recruit during her high school years.
