A Yonkers man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he approached a busy area of Getty Square while wielding a large kitchen knife. Curtis Greene, 41, was spotted at around 3:30 p.m. on North Broadway, prompting intervention from the 4th Precinct Anti-Crime Unit. Despite officers’ repeated commands to drop the weapon, he ignored them and continued toward the crowded intersection.

Officers, including Detective Specialist Goldberg and Officers McGill and Mendelson, quickly attempted to contain Greene. With the situation escalating, Officers McCormack and Petrucelli arrived and used Tasers, successfully incapacitating Greene and forcing him to drop the knife.

Following his fall, officers secured the weapon and took Greene into custody, though a struggle ensued. During the arrest, one officer sustained injuries, leading to Greene facing an additional charge of assault in the second degree.

Greene is now facing multiple charges, which include criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, and assault.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported to Greene or any bystanders during this dangerous encounter. Authorities attributed the successful resolution of the incident to the training and equipment of the officers involved.
