A hit-and-run incident in Clairemont Mesa East, San Diego, resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man riding an electric bicycle early this morning. The tragic crash occurred around 1:25 a.m. on Balboa Avenue, where the cyclist was traveling westbound in the bike lane while a vehicle was also moving in the same direction in the No. 2 lane, according to the San Diego Police Department.

During the incident, the bicyclist attempted to veer left, entering the path of the vehicle, which led to the collision. The driver did not stop and fled the scene immediately after striking the cyclist.

Authorities are on the lookout for the suspect vehicle, described as a light-colored, possibly gray 2016-2022 Mercedes Benz E-class sedan, which reportedly has damage to the front end and is missing a front-end body piece.

Despite the swift response from paramedics who transported the victim to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

San Diego police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect vehicle to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
