Homeowner shoots suspected burglar in University Place

HOUSTON - A homeowner shot a man who allegedly broke into his house in University Place and was found sitting in his pregnant wife's car. The incident occurred late Friday night on Kelving and Morningside, around 11 p.m., when the couple's home alarm was triggered by suspicious noises.
The husband, in his 50s, armed himself and went to investigate the situation in the garage. Upon discovering that the garage door was open and a stranger was inside his wife's vehicle, he approached the man to confront him.
As the homeowner called out to the intruder to stop, the suspect exited the car. According to police, the confrontation was tense and happened in almost complete darkness, preventing the homeowner from seeing the man's hands. Suddenly, the suspect made rapid movements, prompting the homeowner to fire his weapon in self-defense, hitting the intruder in the arm and leg.
Emergency services arrived and transported the suspect to the hospital, where he is expected to recover. He will face charges related to burglary once he is medically cleared.
The homeowner is not facing any charges for the shooting, as authorities are treating the incident as a case of self-defense.
