ATLANTA -- A man tragically lost his life early Saturday morning after being shot in Downtown Atlanta the previous evening. The Atlanta Police Department responded to an incident at the intersection of Luckie Street NW and Mills Street NW, where they found a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Despite immediate medical attention, the man succumbed to his injuries, leading authorities to classify the case as a homicide. Although the victim has not yet been publicly identified, police reported that he was from Charlotte.

The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. when the victim approached a group of individuals standing on the sidewalk. An exchange of words transpired, which escalated into gunfire, according to Atlanta Police Lt. Andrew Smith.

After being shot, the victim was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event as they seek to gather more information about the individuals involved.
