NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man and his passenger were arrested after a police chase led them to a stop where they were found inflating their tires. Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department first observed the vehicle, which had a temporary Tennessee tag obscured by a tinted license plate cover, on Gallatin Pike North and Old Hickory Boulevard.

When the police attempted to pull the car over, the driver accelerated and fled. However, law enforcement utilized Air-1, an aerial unit, to track the vehicle to 61 East Thompson Lane, where the driver, Jonathan E. Chapa, and his passenger ceased their escape to add air to the tires.

The arrest was made without any further incidents. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the odor of marijuana, leading them to search the car. A significant baggie of marijuana was located in the center console, along with a backpack containing various marijuana-related items, including a bottle, two digital scales, loose plastic baggies, and two vape pens.

Chapa admitted that the marijuana belonged to him during police questioning. Additionally, it was discovered that he was driving with a suspended license at the time of the incident.

The series of events showcases not only the police's persistent efforts to apprehend suspects but also highlights issues related to traffic violations and drug possession in the area.
