Chase With Stolen Car Leads To Crash

A suspect was apprehended Saturday afternoon after stealing a vehicle from a Four Oaks convenience store parking lot in Johnston County. After exiting his own car and entering a different vehicle that did not belong to him, the suspect drove away, prompting law enforcement to issue a lookout alert for the stolen car.
Minutes later, the Selma Police Department spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect refused to pull over, leading to a chase as he attempted to evade arrest. The Johnston County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit to assist Selma Police.
During the chase, authorities reported that the suspect nearly caused a head-on collision while trying to overtake a slower vehicle. This reckless maneuver resulted in a chain reaction crash involving multiple vehicles, including a cruiser from the sheriff's office. Another patrol car had to veer off the road into a field to avoid being part of the crash.
Ultimately, the suspect was arrested and now faces numerous charges, including fleeing to elude law enforcement and possession of a stolen vehicle. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported from the incident.
The State Highway Patrol was not directly involved in the pursuit but took charge of investigating the subsequent collision.
