An Atlantic City man has been indicted in connection with a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of Mays Landing newlyweds last month in Maurice River Township. Levon Woods, 25, faces serious charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide and violation of laws intended to protect public health and safety, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. Woods surrendered to police and is currently held in Cumberland County jail.

The incident occurred on February 22 when Woods allegedly drove his Kia under the influence and collided with Thomas Splinter, 57, who was traveling west on Route 552. Woods crossed the centerline and struck Splinter’s vehicle at approximately 4:13 a.m., State Police reported. Both Splinter and his wife, Nancy Orellana-Splinter, 29, were pronounced dead at the scene, with the couple having married just a few months prior in September.

In addition to the homicide charges, Woods has also been cited for reckless driving, driving under the influence, and making an unsafe lane change. He sustained injuries from the accident and was taken to a local hospital following the crash.

A detention hearing for Woods has been scheduled for Wednesday after he was indicted on Friday. The tragic event has drawn public attention, as it highlights ongoing issues related to impaired driving and its severe consequences.
