Officers involved in deadly shooting identified

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has identified two officers from the San Diego Police Department involved in a fatal shooting incident earlier this week in Miramar Ranch North. Officers Brandon Jordan and Chris Lingenhol discharged their weapons while responding to a suspect who allegedly threatened several individuals with a gun.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a 59-year-old man aimed a handgun at construction workers and a pest control employee in the vicinity of Angelique Street. Following the threats, one worker quickly sought refuge in his vehicle for safety, prompting police to dispatch a SWAT team to the area. Authorities established a containment perimeter to ensure public safety and attempted to de-escalate the situation.
The suspect was ordered to drop his weapon, described as a semi-automatic pistol, but he failed to comply. As SWAT officers approached the pest control worker, the suspect reportedly pointed the gun at them, leading to the officers firing at him. The suspect sustained upper-body injuries and later died from those injuries, as confirmed by the Sheriff's Office, which is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.
While the identity of the suspect has been withheld pending notification of his next of kin, the motivation for his behavior remains unclear. Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the incident.
The San Diego County District Attorney's Office is set to evaluate the Sheriff's investigation to determine if the involved officers may face any criminal charges. Additionally, the SDPD is conducting its own administrative inquiry regarding the discharge of the officers’ firearms. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the San Diego County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
