RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The family of 38-year-old Alana Enoicy, a Raleigh mother who was shot and killed, is grappling with profound grief. Her daughter, Shaniya Dunston, described the traumatic scene, revealing that Alana was gunned down in front of her 2-year-old brother. "I can't forget her face, which was laid out on that floor," Dunston reflected, struggling to process the loss of her mother.

At just 21, Dunston finds it difficult to face a life without her mother, emphasizing the pain of being the only daughter. She recalls her mother as a loving and generous person who always prioritized helping others, including homeless individuals in downtown Raleigh. Despite her kindness, Dunston noted that not everyone reciprocated her mother's goodwill, particularly in light of her relationship with Keith Atkinson, 65, which had raised concerns.

The tragic incident occurred Thursday evening when Atkinson appeared at their home. While Dunston was upstairs with her aunt, Alana and her son were downstairs when the shooting took place. Dunston rushed down after hearing the shocking news, but despite her attempts at CPR, her mother later died at the hospital. Atkinson fled the scene but was arrested shortly afterward and denied bond during his first court appearance.

As Dunston processes her grief, she faces the daunting task of being a key witness in the upcoming trial. "If I could scream to the depths of heaven, I would," she expressed, expressing her anger at seeing Atkinson walk free while her mother is gone. The family is determined to seek justice, with Atkinson's next court hearing scheduled for April 17.

While they prepare for this legal battle, Alana's family is also working on funeral arrangements and setting up a fundraiser to assist with related expenses. They are hopeful that friends, family, and neighbors will rally in court to support Alana’s memory during these challenging times.
