Father Admits to Child Abuse After Newborn Discovered on Adams County Median on Christmas Day - Internewscast Journal

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- Jarvis Sims, a father accused of leaving his 1-month-old son on a median in Adams County on Christmas Day, has pleaded guilty to child abuse. The plea was entered on Monday, resulting in a one-year deferred sentence, meaning the case can be dismissed if he meets certain court conditions.
The incident occurred on December 25, 2024, when the Adams County Sheriff's Office was alerted about the infant found in a car seat along Pecos Street, dressed only in a diaper. A Good Samaritan called 911 after discovering the baby, who was later taken to Children's Hospital where tests revealed the child had cocaine in his system. Following the discovery, the baby was placed under the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services.
Investigations revealed that the child's biological parents, Sims and Christina Thurman, were involved in a domestic dispute on that day. Witnesses recounted a heated argument between the couple, during which Sims left the baby on the median after an altercation. He reportedly told Thurman to retrieve the baby, but she refused, leading him to abandon the infant before returning home.
Thurman's family insists that she should not be held responsible, stating she was not aware Sims would leave the baby there. They argue that she would have intervened had she realized Sims' intentions. The couple was arrested later that day, with both facing charges of child abuse.
Sims pleaded guilty to child abuse on Monday, leading to a dismissal of two additional charges against him. Meanwhile, Thurman's case is still pending, with her scheduled for a pretrial conference on April 21, 2024.
