A Columbia County man reported being pursued by an enraged individual who accused him of having an affair with his wife. The confrontation began on Tuesday night when the victim was leaving Ft. Eisenhower and driving home to Augusta along Gordon Highway. A truck started to pace him, flashing its lights and trying to signal him to stop. When the victim complied and rolled down his window, he was confronted with the accusation: “You’re sleeping with my wife!”

In response to the accusation, the victim assured the man that he was mistaken and attempted to divert towards Harlem to escape the aggressive driver. He eventually found an empty parking lot, where he turned off his headlights to evade his pursuer. However, this did not deter the suspect, who managed to open the victim's car door and brandished a gun, prompting the victim to accelerate in panic.

In the ensuing chaos, the victim's vehicle veered off course and ended up in a nearby retention pond. While trapped in the car, he stated that he heard gunfire, which added to the danger of the situation. As the frightening encounter unfolded, the victim quickly exited the vehicle and dashed into the nearby woods to take cover, waiting for the assailant to leave.

A witness in the area reported hearing the gunshots and promptly alerted authorities by calling 911. This bystander observed both a black SUV and a red sedan depart the parking lot during the incident.

Fortunately, the victim sustained no injuries during the encounter, but the identity of the suspect remains unknown as the investigation continues. The situation highlights the potential dangers arising from misunderstandings and accusations in personal relationships.
