Vacant house catches fire on Plank Road; Investigators determine the cause as Arson
Firefighters in Baton Rouge are investigating a vacant house fire as an act of arson following an incident early Sunday morning. The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to the scene on Plank Road at 6:45 a.m. to tackle the blaze.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames and quickly prioritized protecting nearby properties while working to control the situation. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries linked to the fire.
Investigators have determined that the fire was intentionally set, noting that responders had received calls about the property just hours before the blaze erupted. Evidence of previous attempted arson was found at the scene, raising concerns about the house's safety.
Despite being vacant, the property has a history of attracting squatters, which complicates the investigation into the arson. Fire officials are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Authorities are asking the public to contact BRFD Fire Investigators or Crimestoppers at 225-344-7867 with any tips or information related to the case.
