Three arrested in Half Moon Bay for shoplifting groceries

Three men in their 30s, all with prior theft charges, were arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly stealing groceries from a Safeway in Half Moon Bay, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of shoplifting at the grocery store located near Main Street and North Cabrillo Highway.
The suspects reportedly fled the scene in an SUV, prompting a deputy to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description shortly after. Inside the car, officers found four occupants: one woman driving and three men, two of whom were suspected of the theft. The stolen merchandise was recovered, along with narcotics paraphernalia.
While the female driver was released, the three men were arrested due to outstanding warrants. This reflected a continued police effort to address theft and related crimes in the area, especially given the suspects' previous criminal history.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about the case to reach out. Contact details have been provided, including an email address for Deputy Lee-Cardenas and a tip line for anonymous calls.
As the investigation continues, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office aims to discourage such criminal activities and invite public cooperation in resolving the matter.
