'Family Holds Vigil for Beloved Man Fatally Shot in 2022' - Internewscast Journal

SAN ANTONIO - This week marks three years of grief for the family of 28-year-old Juan Mendoza, who was fatally shot in March 2022. Despite the passage of time, they still seek answers regarding his tragic death. On Saturday, family and friends gathered for a vigil to honor his memory and keep his spirit alive.
Mendoza was shot while stopped at a red light at the intersection of El Paso Street and South General McMullen Drive. Witnesses reported that a black Chevrolet Malibu pulled up alongside him and opened fire, resulting in a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
In remembrance of Mendoza, his loved ones have held an annual prayer vigil each year since his death. They gather to pay tribute at a memorial and conclude the event with a balloon release. His sister, Cynthia Castaneda, described him as a generous soul who would give whatever he could, regardless of his own circumstances.
Sadly, the individual responsible for Mendoza's murder has evaded capture. According to Castaneda, the suspect fled not only the county but also the entire United States, leaving the family in a state of uncertainty and frustration. "There’s nothing we can do until he’s actually caught and brought in for questioning," she explained.
In an effort to gather information on the case, Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000. The San Antonio Police Department has released images of what they believe is the suspect's vehicle. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867, as the family continues to seek justice for Juan Mendoza.
