New Jersey janitor sentenced to eight years for tainting school lunches with bodily fluids

Giovanni Impellizzeri, a former school custodian from Vineland, NJ, has been sentenced to eight years in state prison after admitting to contaminating food with bodily fluids and chemicals at a school. He pleaded guilty to serious charges, including second-degree official misconduct and third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Under the terms of his sentence, he must serve at least five years before becoming eligible for parole, as stated by Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
The investigation into Impellizzeri's actions was conducted by the New Jersey State Police, who discovered videos recorded by him while employed at the Upper Deerfield School District. The footage revealed him contaminating food prepared for staff and students, as well as engaging in sexual acts with cafeteria utensils. These shocking revelations prompted law enforcement to take immediate action.
In addition to the charges related to food contamination, authorities found that Impellizzeri had possessed and shared CSAM, which led to further legal repercussions. Additional charges were filed against him on November 8, 2023, encompassing possession and distribution of these materials.
Impellizzeri entered his guilty plea on January 13, 2025, and was sentenced by Judge Cristen P. D'Arrigo. His sentence includes a three-year term for the CSAM charge, which will be served consecutively to the five-year minimum for his misconduct charge.
Upon his release, Impellizzeri will be subject to lifetime parole supervision. The gravity of his actions and the violation of trust at a school setting have elicited strong reactions from the community and law enforcement alike.
