Two men are dead following a shooting incident involving a Miami-Dade transit bus driver in Miami Gardens early Sunday morning. The altercation occurred shortly before 3 a.m. after the driver engaged in a dispute with two passengers. The police responded to reports of a disturbance near NW 183rd Street and NW 7th Avenue and subsequently closed off a shopping center in the area.

According to initial reports, the bus was stationary when the driver fired shots at the passengers, resulting in their injuries. Both victims were transported to Aventura Hospital but were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one local resident stating, "I heard six shots," expressing concern about the ongoing violence in the community.

The driver of the bus has been taken into custody, and authorities confirmed that he was not shot during the incident. Miami Gardens police have emphasized that this appears to be an isolated case, with no ongoing threat to the community or other bus passengers. "I don't think the community needs to be frightened," said police spokesperson Diana Delgado, who assured that there is no indication of a larger issue related to bus safety.

Miami-Dade's Department of Transportation and Public Works stated that county bus drivers are not permitted to carry firearms, indicating that the use of a weapon as self-defense is prohibited for transit operators. County Commissioner Eileen Higgins expressed her heartbreak over the fatalities and highlighted the importance of safety for both passengers and drivers.

The incident remains under investigation by law enforcement, with the Department of Transportation fully cooperating with authorities to gather further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting.
