Colleton County deputies investigate homicide after man found dead in yard

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide following the discovery of a deceased man in a yard on Sunday morning. A passerby reported seeing the man lying in the yard on Quail Drive around 9:30 a.m., prompting a response from deputies and the Fire Rescue team.

Upon arrival, authorities found the man covered in blood and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the circumstances surrounding the discovery, investigators are treating the case as a homicide while they work to determine the exact cause of death.

Sgt. Laura Rutland confirmed that a person of interest has been identified and located, alleviating concerns about an ongoing threat to the community. Detectives believe this incident is isolated.
