AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An EMS worker and deputy were injured during a confrontation with a man, Tyler Gress, while he was being transported to a hospital for a head injury. The incident occurred on Friday as Gress was en route to AUMC.

Deputy Mcintire, who was following the ambulance, responded when it stopped at the intersection of 13th Street and Greene Street. Witnesses reported that the rear doors of the ambulance were flung open, revealing Gress struggling with EMS worker Felicia Lambert. During the altercation, Lambert sustained an injury to her right shoulder.

In an effort to assist, Deputy Mcintire intervened but faced challenges as Gress attempted to grab his taser and bit him on the arm, leaving visible bite marks. With the support of additional deputies, Mcintire was able to place Gress in custody, and they continued to ride in the ambulance to AUMC.

Once at the hospital, Gress remained combative despite being restrained. His aggressive behavior necessitated sedation by hospital staff to facilitate treatment for his head injury.

This incident underscores the dangers faced by emergency personnel when dealing with uncooperative patients, emphasizing the importance of safety measures during medical transport.
