CAMDEN, NJ -- Masta Redding, a 38-year-old man from Toms River, has been sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for distributing cocaine and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. Attorney John Giordano announced the sentencing of 151 months on March 26, following Redding's guilty plea to charges related to drug possession and firearm offenses.

On March 5, 2020, Redding was found to have cocaine intended for distribution, both on his person and in his home. Additionally, he was discovered to be in illegal possession of a loaded Jimenez Arms pistol, a serious violation given his previous felony conviction.

Prosecutors highlighted that Redding attempted to obstruct justice by persuading another individual to submit a false affidavit claiming ownership of the drugs and firearm. This act further complicated his legal situation as it demonstrated his willingness to manipulate the circumstances surrounding his charges.

In addition to his lengthy prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Karen M. Williams also imposed a three-year supervised release period following his imprisonment. Additionally, he was ordered to forfeit the firearm and ammunition involved in the offense.

The case was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with support from several law enforcement agencies, including the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Asbury Park Police Department. Redding's actions exemplify the serious legal consequences associated with drug distribution and firearm offenses.
