Teen duo charged in deadly Cook Road shooting that left one dead, one injured

HOUSTON, TX -- Police have announced the arrest of a second suspect, Christopher Portillo Luna, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. The 17-year-old faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon linked to the incident on March 18 at 7500 Cook Road.
Luna joins another teenager, 17-year-old Fernando Amaya, who was previously arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault of a family member, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Both suspects are now facing serious charges in separate state district courts.
The tragic incident involved the death of 41-year-old Marcos Cotto Torres, who was discovered unresponsive inside an apartment shortly before 1 a.m. as officers responded to a report of a person down. Another male victim, found outside the apartment with a gunshot wound, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to detectives, initial investigations and witness statements led them to identify Amaya as a suspect. It was later confirmed that both he and Luna had arrived at the scene together before fleeing in a white full-size SUV, the make or model of which remains unknown.
Amaya was arrested at a family member's residence later that same morning, while Luna was taken into custody after being identified as another suspect. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
