Kentucky man charged with malicious assault and strangulation in Monongalia County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) - A Kentucky man, Jonathan Lee Mathis, was arrested and charged with malicious assault and strangulation following a domestic dispute near Mont Chateau Road and the Ices Ferry Bridge in Cheat Lake. The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest on its Facebook page.

The incident began when witnesses observed a man dragging a woman from the back of an SUV. Deputies quickly responded to the scene and found the victim with serious injuries, including heavy bleeding from her head, bruising, and significant facial swelling.

Upon investigation, the victim identified Mathis as her assailant. She recounted that he had struck her with a rock during an argument and left her injured in the parking lot.

Mathis was subsequently arrested near his residence, where authorities discovered he also had an unrelated warrant out of Florida. He is now in custody, facing charges related to the domestic violence incident.
