Driver charged with DUI, multiple hit-and-runs after Milwaukie police pursuit

A Milwaukie man, Fredy Sales Cardona, 28, was arrested Saturday night following a head-on collision, which he allegedly caused before fleeing the scene and attempting to evade the police. The incident took place around 9:05 p.m. near Southeast Harmony Road, and authorities report that Cardona now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Witnesses alerted the Milwaukie Police to the two-car crash, indicating that Cardona was responsible and had left the scene while the other driver remained. Officers located Cardona’s vehicle, which displayed heavy front-end damage, near the intersection of Southeast Linwood Avenue and Southeast Harmony Road.
When police attempted to stop him, Cardona did not comply and continued driving until he collided with a parked car in an apartment complex parking lot. After being blocked in by police vehicles, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
Investigation revealed that Cardona had swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in the head-on collision that injured the other driver, who was taken to a local hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Cardona is now booked into Clackamas County Jail with charges that include hit-and-run with injury, hit-and-run with property damage, and attempting to elude police both on foot and in a vehicle. Authorities are still investigating the incident and urge anyone with further information to contact Officer Morton.
