Police: Maryland man killed 3 neighbours, set house ablaze

A man from Woodlawn, Maryland, identified as 56-year-old Everton Brown, went on a violent rampage over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, as well as injuries inflicted on another. The incident unfolded early Saturday morning when Brown forcibly entered a neighboring home and attacked 41-year-old Ismael Quintanilla with both a firearm and a knife.

During the chaos, 37-year-old Sara Alacote attempted to flee but was chased down by Brown, who shot her multiple times. Two neighboring residents also came out to investigate and were shot by Brown; one of them, 24-year-old Sagar Ghimire, later succumbed to his injuries, while the identity of the other victim remains undisclosed but is recovering. In addition to the shootings, Brown set fire to his own residence, leading to significant damage and the collapse of multiple homes in the area.

Responding officers encountered Brown in a parking lot, where he was shot and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators discovered several homemade explosive devices, a handgun, and a large knife in his vehicles. While police continue to process the scene and interview witnesses, they have yet to reveal a motive for Brown's violent actions.

Brown had a history of aggressive behavior, according to neighbors who recounted experiences of fear and intimidation. Residents suspected he suffered from mental health issues and had previously voiced unsubstantiated beliefs that they were surveilling him. Stories shared by long-time neighbors indicate that his unsettling behavior had been present for years, fostering a sense of anxiety within the community.

In 2012, Brown filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, accusing it of unlawful surveillance, which was dismissed by a judge who cited a lack of credible evidence. The tragic events that unfolded over the weekend highlight the disturbing culmination of his long-standing erratic behavior and the perceived threat he posed to his neighborhood.
