BLOOMBURG, Texas - A tragic incident early Saturday morning has left a 9-year-old girl dead and her mother in custody, while the child's grandmother also sustained injuries. The Cass County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Abigail French, who was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital after suffering severe trauma.

Allison French, Abigail's mother, is being held on charges of capital murder. In the ordeal, Abigail's grandmother, Jacki Kubin, sustained defensive wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment. The harrowing event took place around 6:30 a.m. on FM 74, though specific details regarding the incident have yet to be disclosed by the sheriff's office.

Following the alleged attack, Kubin managed to escape and sought help from a neighbor, who subsequently provided authorities with a description of French's vehicle. An Atlanta police officer was the first responder on the scene and transported Abigail to the hospital, but unfortunately, she could not be saved.

French's vehicle was later found off FM 74, and authorities used a drone to locate her. She was reportedly admitted to the hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries, as indicated by the sheriff's office.

As the investigation into this tragic case continues, the community is left in shock over the loss of young Abigail and the circumstances surrounding the events that transpired.
