Police identify deceased 8-year-old boy, mother shot in Utah - East Idaho News

Saratoga Springs police have identified an 8-year-old boy named Eli Painter as the victim of a fatal shooting incident on Friday. His mother, Jessica Lyman, aged 44, was also shot and is currently in critical condition. The shooting occurred in their home located on Willowbrook Lane.

Along with Eli and Lyman, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were present in the house at the time of the incident. The girl made the emergency call after discovering her mother and brother unconscious. Upon arrival at the scene around 10:15 a.m., officers found Eli deceased.

Details surrounding the shooting remain limited, and specific information regarding the injuries sustained by Lyman has not been released. Police have commenced an investigation, focusing on determining how the events unfolded and identifying any potential suspects.

The home was sealed off by officers who began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. Forensic investigators were also dispatched to the scene to assist with the investigation.
