GUTHRIE, Okla. (KFOR) -- A man has been arrested by the Guthrie Police Department following a violent incident in which he allegedly shot his wife multiple times, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. The situation unfolded after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots and called 911, prompting an emergency response.

Larry Don Chandler reportedly got into an argument with his wife at their home near Elm Street and East Vilas Avenue, during which he struck her with a stick. The altercation escalated outside, culminating in Chandler shooting her five times. According to neighbors, the couple was well-known and regarded as respectful members of the community.

Rhonda Robinson, a nearby resident, described the chaotic scene, noting the significant police presence and the area being blocked off to ensure safety. She expressed her shock at the violent turn of events, emphasizing that the couple were generally seen as kind-hearted individuals who would help anyone in need.

During the incident, two children were present in the household. Robinson mentioned her seven-year-old grandson often plays with Chandler's children, further highlighting the close-knit nature of the neighborhood. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she is currently recovering from her injuries.

Chandler is now in the Logan County Jail, facing serious charges, including shooting with intent to kill and domestic assault resulting in great bodily harm. Robinson expressed her hopes for the recovery of both the victim and Chandler, stating, "I'm just praying for her and I'm praying for him."
