Federal authorities are investigating a fire that damaged the entrance of the Republican Party of New Mexico's headquarters in Albuquerque early Sunday morning. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reported that agents found unspecified "incendiary materials" at the scene, although details on these materials were not disclosed.

This incident comes on the heels of escalating acts of vandalism targeting Tesla, the electric car company associated with Elon Musk, who has been a vocal critic of the federal workforce. Recently, several cases involved Molotov cocktails being used to vandalize Tesla dealerships, prompting U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to label these incidents as a "wave of domestic terrorism."

Firefighters arrived quickly at the Republican Party headquarters just before 6 a.m. and were able to control the fire within five minutes, according to Lt. Jason Fejer of Albuquerque Fire Rescue. Fortunately, the building was unoccupied during the incident, and no injuries were reported, but the entrance was severely burned and there was significant smoke damage inside.

Amy Barela, Chair of the New Mexico Republican Party, praised the firefighters' swift response in preventing the fire from spreading further. She also noted that security systems had detected the flames, helping to mobilize the response. Photographs from GOP representatives showed extensive damage, including a burned door and debris scattered around the entrance.

In addition to the fire, GOP representatives found graffiti reading "ICE=KKK" on a nearby wall, raising concerns about the politically motivated nature of the attack. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller condemned the arson as a cowardly act and emphasized that politically motivated crimes are unacceptable. The investigation continues, with both the ATF and FBI actively involved in searching for further evidence and witnesses.
