This is devastating — shopping centres are supposed to be safe, everyday places, not targets. The pattern in this article — repeated strikes on civilian sites, children among the wounded — underlines what Ukrainian leaders rightly call a tactic of coercion. Any serious progressive response has to center the protection of civilians: ramp up humanitarian aid, shelter and medical support for survivors, and urgently expand air-defence and evacuation capacity so people aren’t left exposed in broad daylight. At the same time, “peace talks” that ignore justice and allow continued attacks will only reward violence. International institutions must document and pursue accountability for attacks on civilians, while democracies keep supporting Ukraine’s right to defend itself and to negotiate from a position of strength. My heart goes out to the victims and their families — the world must act, not look away.
