Nobody ignores Thatcher

Everyone ignores Thatcher

Oh I totally disagree with that view of history. Major, Cameron, May, Johnson and Truss were all quite distinct from each other so I don't think you can say any of them was the "logical conclusion". Thatcher certainly didn't think Major was. It's much messier than that

Darren @derrwood.bsky.social · 6d

No one can deny Truss was the worst. But Truss is just the logical conclusion of Johnson and Johnson of Cameron and Cameron of Major and Major of Thatcher. For me, it was Margaret Thatcher who unleashed so many of the policies that culminated in Truss.

Dorian Lynskey 6d

I remember but I think Truss was worse. There's nothing in the credit column

David Belbin @davidbelbin.bsky.social · 6d

Pretty shocked how everyone in this thread has eliminated Truss’s predecessor from their memory. You know, the one without whom Brexit wouldn’t have happened and the bodies would not have piled so high. Unlike LT, he was aware of exactly how badly he was behaving.

Dorian Lynskey 6d

People say Cameron did more consequential damage in the long run and this is true but now imagine - if you dare - that Truss had also served six years

Dorian Lynskey @dorianlynskey.bsky.social · 6d

Truss is clearly the worst PM we’ve ever had. The fact she blew it so early and so obviously that she didn’t get a chance to cause more damage should not work in her favour

He’s vain, incurious and self-satisfied. Terrible qualities for a journalist

Ben Ansell @benansell.bsky.social · 2w

I think what frustrates me about Webb is his very minimal reckoning with his past bad calls

No that’s normal usage. Very common

Also full stop before the. And is a really basic grammatical mistake.

Wow

Campbell Stevenson @campbells.bsky.social · 2w

I once had to sub a piece on his favourite US presidential candidates. Littered with errors and what with it being just before Christmas he just gave up and said ‘sort it yourself’. Oddly, have never felt the need to listen to Americast.

I’m sure that’s part of it

Steven Fielding @polprofsteve2024.bsky.social · 2w

The problem is that the candidate he claims to be woke is the one that is focussing most closely on the everyday issues that face Americans. Perhaps it’s because he is Muslim that Web thinks this or is it because he stopped thinking sometime in the early 1990s?

Oh god of course it is. Those guys are never without employment

So the new Reform newspaper - The Reformer - is under the "Editorial Leadership" of Mick Hume - former leading light in the Revolutionary Communist Party, Editor of Living Marxism until it folded after that ITV libel case. As I've said many times ... Farage’s various parties always attract the RCP

Yes it has but this particular column is by Melanie Phillips, who lost it about 30 years ago
