god theres so many animals given up or put down JUST bcuz the care is unaffordable. Not unsolvable. Not that nobody is willing to help them. Just money. What a stupid tragic reason to suffer.

I could've used this. One vet visit, one animal dermatologist visit (for an auto immune disease attacking my dog's skin), and an emergency trip to the opthamologist for an ulcerated cornea - All in one day. Total cost was approximately $1500. And I have to get refills for the meds

A lotttttt of orgs that helped with this exact thing took a hard hit or outright went extinct when Covid hit. I think it's a big reason why Im seeing surges of feral domestics. It's so hard to help even one cat on your own.

It destroy's people's mental health to watch an animal companion suffer. And sick animals can get humans sick. Feral domestics destroy habitats. It's a small thing civil doctors could do to help a whole community. It's hard to shoulder on the backs of just donations. Robust gov help would do a lot.

People dont give up their animals to the shelter cuz theyre heartless. When Ive been at the shelter, the folks dropping off pets are /grieving/. It's old ladies that have to choose btwn rent and the family dog, who spend a fee to get them in so theyre at least fed a meal and not on the street.

Definitely, I was just at a rescue the other day and they're seeing such an increase in returned pets just based on people being unable to afford basic healthcare, this would help so many people.

That would be amazing. Imagine not having to flip out if u encounter a bat. Not cuz bats are scary, but because they can be rabies vectors. Vax every bat.

did you know they're vaccinating raccoons against rabies by dropping sauce packets full of delicious vaccine out of airplanes? it sounds silly but they need to reduce the amount of rabid animals. makes me wonder if we could eradicate rabies like we did with other diseases

Public healthcare extended to pets. Yes actually A Public Animal Health Fund to ensure veterinary care no matter their owner's income level. That wildlife services are properly funded to reduce the number of injured wild animals. And animal/ecology education made a fundamental part of school.
