Watching the BBC destroy its local and international news to save a pittance, while leaving its very expensive but utterly useless management tiers unaffected, is so unspeakably depressing.

HMRC's scheduling of tax payments to include assumed future earnings really does feel like a special kind of punishment to freelancers. Makes it basically impossible to ever really feel confident in your finances.

Mahmood plans an absolute dog's breakfast. The whole thing was originally undertaken to get rid of care workers, but they will now mostly get ILR after 5-year, while others wait 10. Inexplicable on moral or practical terms. Many refugees left without security basically indefinitely.

Any retrospective application is intolerable, for anyone. It contradicts natural justice and shows that Britain does not keep its word. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The whole attraction of Healey as chancellor was that he didn't have the ego to develop his own power base. Over the last 48 hours he's shat all over the prime minister's Europe message, contradicted the government on welfare and tried to apply pressure over the energy secretary's Rosebank decision.

Healey did exactly what he set out to do: some modest help, some clever politics, and no frighteners. inews.co.uk/opinion/bori...

Badenoch's attack on Burnham - that no-one wants to reopen the debate on Brexit - is disingenuous, stagnant and cynical. But it is also by far the most effective argument the anti-Europeans have and Burnham looked a bit unsettled by it.

Pro-Europeans really need to get their act together if they're going to sieze the opportunity which is being presented here. Press and broadcasters reverting right back to their previous position from 2016, with zero update.

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

What an incredible night last night. To see the resistance against populism triumph in two such different countries, in two such different ways.

Again, worth analysing Burnham as if he is really good at politics: moving red lines from things EU can't accept (free movement) to things it might (euro). Changing terms of debate on an issue from negative (uncontrolled immigration) to positive (Brits can go abroad for work).

Really quite struck by how piss-poor the UK coverage has been of the French riots, particularly from commentators. Superficial, know-nothing, self-interested, utterly unrevealing. An emabrrassment.

The hollowing out a priceless national asset, under a techbro vandal. As with higher education, this type of move might be tolerable if there was *any government policy at all* on what the ultimate plan is. But there isn't.
