Suspect it may be enough for many of the MPs opposed however

Choosing to apply these changes to those already here remains morally wrong. The impact of the changes economically remain hugely negative at a time when we need more immigration. And politically this won't cut any ice with those obsessed by immigration while alienating social liberals.

Close to what I guessed would happen: exemption for existing care workers, drop from 15 to 10 years for most and, I suspect, a load of other exemptions or ways to get that number back to 5 years. It's not enough. The changes remain economically, morally and politically wrong.

If the EV holds out/polling is slightly off towards the GOP it could be wild

Feel like we're not ready for how wacky election day could get for Dem wins

No, those states just joined NATO as soon as they were able for no reason at all.

Chris Terry-Enescu @cjterry.bsky.social · 1d

Is there maybe a reason why Russia has invaded Ukraine and not Baltic or former Eastern Bloc nations who are members of NATO. Just one of life's mysteries I guess

Well, the 5p temporary cut has been extended. And fuel duty remains frozen for 15 years. Petrol isnt high because of tax. Its high because of Trump

People want to see the price go down. If it doesnt then any cut wont be seen.

Gareth Potter @garethpotter.com · 3d

This is not what normal people understand by a fuel duty cut. That there is already some technical cut in place - because successive governments are too afraid to nudge drivers to switch away from fossil fuels - is irrelevant when fuel prices have risen this much this year.

Tbh Hormuz is doing that for us and the govt is spending quite a lot (7bn -10bn or so) trying to push EV transition

Berty Trouser @bertytrouser.bsky.social · 3d

Get a EV tho? Really they should be making fossil fuel car use more expensive to fund cheaper EVs .

There is *literally* a fuel duty* cut in the budget

I earn £30,000. I'm angry there was no fuel duty cut in the Budget
