WTF is this headline? The racism here is not a matter of opinion (Labour's, yours, mine, the BBC's). It's just a matter of fact and pathetic the BBC can't say so. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Telegraph have now corrected their false claim (by serial offender Charles Hymas, their Home Affairs Editor) that migrants took "4 of 5 new jobs". archive.ph/f3dVh

8 months after publishing this entirely fabricated story about Britons "fleeing the country" because of tax rises, the Telegraph has finally (after a comprehensive defeat at @ipso.co.uk) published a correction. archive.ph/xSczO

"What remains is a complicated, arbitrary & punitive system, imposing real costs on individuals, families and UK economy, while delivering little fiscal benefit. A policy in desperate – and failing – search of a rationale. What, exactly, is the point?" Me in @zeteo.uk zeteo.uk/p/debunked-s...

Migrants who come here legally to work make a large economic and fiscal contribution, in the short, medium and long term. The Home Office proposals are designed to make their lives harder/more difficult/deter them from coming at all. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

In addition to this absurd chart, the article is full of Daily Mail/CSJ tropes (confusing "benefits" with all state spending, talking about "work incentives" while ignoring fact PIP is non-means tested, etc, etc). Inexcusable from FT.

The exemption for care workers is very welcome. However - as @jamesbowes01.bsky.social & @sundersays.bsky.social have indefatigably pointed out - this still puts tens/hundreds of thousands at risk of forced emigration/remigration. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is just dreadful stuff from Kuenssberg: "What has the government done to cut the national debt?" ONS: "Public sector net debt was provisionally estimated at 94.0% of GDP, 0.7 percentage points lower than a year earlier"

Sigh. Last line of this story "As a proportion of the economy, debt was lower than a year earlier, the ONS said."

Desperate stuff Home Secretary originally argued (very misleadingly) care workers shouldn't be allowed to settle because their wages were so low that they'd be a fiscal cost. Now she's arguing they shouldn't be allowed to settle because they'd get better paid jobs www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

I see the "migrants taking all the new jobs" nonsense is back, in the Mail, Telegraph and Times. Reminder that this is BS, and IPSO ruled repeatedly that this is not what the data says. I expect corrections from all of them (Times has already agreed to correct) www.ipso.co.uk/rulings/1183...
