You probably recognize the guy on the horse, it's Saint Wenceslas and the statue stands in Wenceslas Square. Besides him, there are statues of other famous Czechs in Prague - Jan Žižka and Saint George. But do you know that in Slovakia there is only one Slovak with an equestrian statue? In Bratislava and Martin there are statues of Saint Martin - who was Italian, and in Bratislava Castle there is also a statue of Svätopluk, who was the prince of Great Moravia. The equestrian statue of Saint Stephen (Komárno) is dedicated to a Hungarian king, who also was not Slovak, and so we have only one last statue, that of Jozef Miloslav Hurban in Žilina. Normally, I was afraid whether I'd find something like this, because there are few equestrians in Slovakia. Only Ľudovít Štúr, Juraj Jánošík, and M.R. Štefánik have images of themselves sitting on a horse, and otherwise, it’s quite poor. Slovaks simply traveled by train, bus, or went on foot :) (translated)
