But also; god, imagine if we had a culture secretary, maybe even one who had consistently proclaimed herself to be a feminist, who might (for example) be a helpful voice in reinstating the Sisterhood and After resources at the British Library (offline since October 2023). So sad we don’t, eh.

Also yes OBVIOUSLY everyone should leave Twitter. Don’t “just keep an account open to protect the username”, don’t just cross-post there but really exist here, don’t just check in a couple of times a week to see what awful things they’re saying. Close your account! Be free!

I know I constantly bang on about how it’s the best job in politics, full of easy wins, a position that’s actually fun etc… but I really don’t understand why she doesn’t at least think “the best way to be promoted would be to do this job really well, make a name for myself, really set out my stall”

It's wild that she is self-regarding enough to think the job is beneath her but not self-regarding enough to realise that she is going to go down in history as a disastrous and lazy minister.

The reason the BL has empty desks is that the cyberattack has reduced people’s access abilities and pushed researchers away from the institution. (Not helped by their mad ebook-only policies around new book acquisitions, etc). If only the UK had a culture secretary.
