Why is there still a shrine to Hitler in Germany? I thought they tore all this crap down. Why do we need it to preserve Hitler's history instead of reading about it in a book? Are the nazis world-wide going into mourning over this?

I say this as an anthropologist researching heritage & nationalism (inter alia). A remote, difficult to access spot assoc with Hitler & Nazi power & you put a fucking restaurant there & intend to rebuild it? some tourism you can do w/o & Austria has other options to highlight regime “insanity”

Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest” has burned & authorities have expressed plans to rebuild it: “we’re not going to leave a wreck there”. I say, fine then, raze the ruins & put up some (small) interpretive signage… …AND DON’T REOPEN THE FUCKING RESTAURANT. No rebuilding Nazi vacation/work retreats.
