Cost of living protests spread to Germany. Demonstrations have rocked Italy, Spain, Portugal, Albania and France. Real problem is inequalities, profiteering. Govts appeasing corporations and the super-rich, neglecting the masses. The UK is no different. When hope evaporates, crisis follows.

Yorkshire Water CEO to step down after the lowest possible environmental rating by the Environment Agency. Attention diverting gesture. Company will still dump sewage in rivers, lose water to leaks, fleece customers. No exec will be prosecuted, licence won't be revoked. Need real change.

England’s water companies failed on environment. Sewage dumped in rivers. 2666 pollution incidents in England in 2025, 40% more on 2016. Execs rewarded, none prosecuted. Customers fleeced. Even with nationalization, it will take a generation to recover.

£1.25bn subsidy for Rolls-Royce to develop a new engine. RR will keep assets and income streams. RR had operating profit of £3.5bn in 2024-25, will pay £9bn to shareholders over next 3 years. Why are shareholders not funding new engine? UK Govt won't take equity stake, £1.25bn not repayable.

UK govt has given the go ahead to gas production at the Jackdaw field in the North Sea. It is expected to generate £1.5bn tax revenue over a 11-year period. Will it be collected? Jackdaw is 50% owned by Shell, with a history of aggressive tax practices. Watch the Minister's reply.

Budget continues with the freeze on tax personal allowance, £12570 since 2021. Fiscal drag increased tax on the less well-off. In 2026-27, a minimum wage earner would pay extra £980 in income tax & NIC. £1,137 in 2027-28. Cost of appeasing the rich. What chance reviving town centres?

Painful' years ahead, as living standards set to fall. Household disposable income to fall by £1,050 or 3% by 2029. That is a political choice. 1% have more wealth than 70% of the population combined. Redistribution is off the political agenda.

he budget is a missed opportunity to loosen the shackles of neoliberalism. Can't solve problems caused by neoliberalism with more of the same. Appeasing corporations and the super-rich, extra tax perks for the rich, but little for ordinary people.
