The 1899 murder of 19-year-old Czech seamstress Anežka Hrůzová near Polná, Bohemia, led to the controversial “Hilsner Affair,” a blood libel case against Leopold Hilsner, a local Jew. On April 1, 1899, during Passover, Hrůzová’s body was found in the Březina Woods with her throat cut. The low volume of blood found at the scene sparked rumors of ritual murder. Today a well preserved Jewish quarter, and a synagogue that serves as a regional museum in the Czech-Moravian Highlands. Rip Anežka 😔 -
