A new study reveals that white dwarfs, historically considered white or blue, can also shine in unexpected tones such as green, pink, or yellow due to the chemistry of their atmospheres. #Estrellas #Astronomía #EnanasBlancas (translated)
"Second-generation planets are worlds that form from the material expelled by a star when it dies. They are incredibly rare, and finding one around a white dwarf was totally unexpected. It's like finding a planet that has emerged from the ashes of the very star it orbited," details the first author of the study, Jamie Williams, PhD student in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick. #PlanetasDeSegundaGeneración #Astrofísica #EnanasBlancas (translated)
An international team of astronomers has discovered the first second-generation planet orbiting a white dwarf, formed from the remnants of the dead star that now surrounds it, challenging previous beliefs about planetary formation after stellar death.
